Main Street DuncanMain Street Duncan, Inc.a
501-C3 (not for profit) organization. Main Street Duncan is a management program for the
downtown central business district.
Main Street Duncan promotes economic growth,
preserves historic value of the downtown area, and creates a quality economic environment
for both business and consumers.
In May of 1986, the downtown area occupancy
rate was 55 percent and the countys major employer had terminated 2,500 jobs. Almost
80 percent of the commercial downtown buildings were absentee owned.
Today, you will find a vibrant downtown area.
The occupancy rate for downtown exceeds 95 percent, absentee ownership has been reduced to
5 percent and over $7 million has been reinvested in public improvements, building
renovations and landscaping.
Cars now line both sides of Main Street. The
exciting result of the project is that the activity level of the downtown area has
increased.
Duncan businesses have access to information
and assistance from the local program director and an 18-member board of directors. Main
Street Duncan, Inc., has boosted the downtown revitalization efforts, stimulated economic
growth and unified the entire community.
